“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12
Have you ever had a dream so big that you start to feel you do not deserve it?
Well, this is nothing new. It happens to most of us. The great news is you can change that by chasing these feelings right when they surface.
I studied the story of King Saul.
I realized he was not always the jealous king as everyone depicted him.
Saul was a gentle soul! (1 Samuel 9)
He simply never understood why of all people, God picked him to be King.
He spent his reign trying to convince the people of his worth instead of trusting God’s decisions for his life. He constantly looked for approval from his surrounding. He disobeyed a direct command from God because the people he led wanted something different. Saul was a people pleaser.
Then, once David came along all confident and skilled on the battlefield, Saul just could not handle it.
David never tried to compete with Saul; he wanted to serve him, but it’s challenging to serve a person who sees you as a threat.
The highlight of this story is how “the spirit of God came upon him powerfully… “in one season, and then the next “departed from him” until he was depressed.
It seems like God tried to persuade him of his worth, and that did not work.
Similar to when someone gives you a compliment and then you start finding all of the ways in which you do not deserve that compliment. The holy spirit got tired of convincing Saul that he was a King chosen by God.
The difference between King Saul and King David is simple; King David believed that he belonged at the royal table.
Here are some lessons from this:
1- Do better in 2023. It is not enough to create goals, you also have to create or even birth the confidence to match your goals. If you want to lead, you can’t be afraid to use your voice. Work on it.
2- Your calling is primarily a mindset shift. It is a mental decision to keep saying,
“I belong here!” “I deserve this.” I can do this.” “I can excel at this.”
The more you delay accepting your calling, the more likely you are to become restless, hopeless, angry, or unnecessarily competitive like Saul.
See, it doesn’t matter if you already say yes to your dreams if you’re not convinced you belong in them.

Just go for it and match the energy of your dreams!
