Eve: What Does It Mean to be Taken from the Ribs?

Have you ever wondered why Eve was taken from the rib/side of Adam?

Some people debated whether God took one of Adam’s ribs or simply made Eve by opening the side of his body since both men and women have the same number of ribs, and men are not missing a rib. But the Bible is clear, God took one rib from Adam’s body and closed the part with flesh.

Some other commentaries debated which of the rib God took from Adam to create Eve. Some people said, probably the one nearest to Adam’s heart since he called her “flesh of my flesh, bone of my bones” and expressed immediate love and admiration for her.

Some others said one of the floating ribs, specifically the 11th rib, because 11 is associated with disobedience. Also, the floating ribs can regenerate and not impact the body if removed. But the Bible does not specify which rib was taken; it simply said, “God took one of the man’s ribs and created woman, then closed the part with flesh.”

But does it matter?

If Eve was taken from the ribs of the thoracic cage, she would be from the ribs protecting man’s heart and lungs.

If Eve was taken from the free-floating ribs, she would still be near the diaphragm controlling and aiding in man’s respiratory system.

Either way, the rib is a very important part of the body. She was taken from the part of the body that is important to the function of the body overall.

2nd point – Adam was given direct commands over lands, animals, and his environment. Eve came out with a natural command over BODIES. She is from a part that controls and protects the human body.

Eve was created as a “SUITABLE HELPER” 1) to help manage and cultivate the land, as this was Adam’s direct job responsibility. 2) protect Adam’s vital existence from the things he may not see and understand.

Eve is a VITAL part of the creation.

So now that makes sense that the serpent would go to Eve to ruin paradise, not Adam. That’s a woman’s power, which is why it is so dangerous when a woman forgets who she is.

A woman who forgets who she is becomes limited in how much she can accomplish in life, within her family, and in society.

The first sin was not that Eve disobeyed God but because she believed the serpent when it told her she was not enough.
