Can you SEE the new thing?

I once heard a story about a donkey that was thrown into an empty well to be burried alive. After being thrown in there, people kept throwing shovels of sand in the attempt to bury him. But every time, he felt the sands on his back, he shook it off to the floor and galloped on top of the sands. He kept doing that over and over. So by the time the people were done shoveling, got tired and left, he had reached a height where he could safely get himself out of the well.

What do you think would have happened to this donkey had he accepted his fate and just stayed in the well pitying himself until his death?

Right. He would not have gotten out of the empty well.

I had a conversation with someone I consider to be a spiritual mentor to me today, and she said something that I will paraphrase here: “God does not spoonfeed you your miracles! Once he promises you something, you need to believe that this promise is already here and fight against all self-doubts that the ennemy wants to instill in your heart.”

This made me think how we already have all the strength we need to overcome any obstacles presented to us on this journey called life, we just have to become aware of that strength and exercise it. The ennemie’s ploys are incentives!! The sooner you can understand his roles in your life, the better you will be at focusing on your own game.

Life is a sport! You need to train for the game consistently and make peace with the fact that there might be curve balls every now and then. You need to be determined and mentally prepared to win the game no matter how many shovels of sands are thrown on your back. You need to learn to think on your feet like the donkey and become adaptable to your situations.

In Isaiah 43:19, God said to his people “behold I am doing a new thing. Do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and a stream in the wasteland.” First, in verse 18: he asked them to forget the old, then in verse 19, he asked, can you see the new thing that I am doing in all of the unexpected places? See why we need to be flexible? Curve ball!

Even if you do not believe in the power of my God, you and I can both agree that none of us have the ability to accurately predict or see the future. That is why when there is a hurricane, we need several updates throughout because we do not have every single detail of the future figured out. So because of this blindspot, it makes perfect sense for us to remain vigilant and flexible with our dreams because they might just come in different package. You might think that your dream job comes with a 6-figure salary, nice car and a nice house, and all you need to do is apply to jobs with those salary range and network your way there. Then you find out in retrospect, prioritizing your family was what led you to building your own business that eventually led to a 6-figure income. It is the same salary and probably more, but the path is completely different.

Being inflexible is refusing to adjust to the demands of the moments and spending countless of hours applying for the jobs of your dream. See God asked a specific question: “Can you perceive the NEW THING I am doing in your life? Well, can you?

If you are not careful, you will miss out on your blessings! You probably heard this statement before. Well it is true. I can testify to that personally. My life took a hard left turn and everything I thought I feared turned into spiritual power and influence. What I am doing now is very different than what I wanted to do when I first started the independent life in college and in relationship. I should have been a Psychiatric Nurse by now running a hospital floor somewhere in a marriage with no children, with the house, the busy life and the night out for evening dinners. But I am a macro social worker in mental health, who really works as a technology support specialist for an online university because I want to be home with my toddler and put as much of my time as possible in her education, while also building a mental health ministry remotely to help survivors of sexual trauma. Curve ball? I absolutely Love it! Same mental health field, different path. I can also say that I am much closer to God thanks to this change, and it is my goal to use his love in my life to impact other people in a holistic way.

So my question to you today is this ” Are you not smarter than a donkey?”
