Wellness Tips for Digital Content Creators

Social media has become the space where we go to get a sense of what’s trending in the world, and we follow people that motivate us on the daily basis.

We have a special relationship with our Digital Content Creators. We customize our newsfeed to always see their content. We’re always the first to comment on their posts. We reshare their reels with our community, and sometimes, they inspire us to create our own. No matter how many breaks we take from social media, there’s no denying that the virtual relationship with our network is a real deal!

Personally, when I am looking for guest speakers or launching a collaborative project, the first place I tap into is my social network because this has now become a new office space.

A few weeks ago during our IG live on Environmental Wellness, someone mentioned in the chat “social media burnout”, I thought this was so real, especially now with so much happening in the world. In the mental health field we have workshops on compassion fatigue, and healing the healer type of space. The same coping techniques that are shared in these workshops are also applicable to Digital Content Creators.

Here are three wellness tips for your toolbox if you are a content creator:

#1 Go outside.

I’m sure you already know the number one tip is to unplug, but it is even more important to be intentional with your time once you unplug. Go to a place where you can be inspired. Places are now open so you can finally grab a coffee with that friend. Take a nature walk. Go to a park, a library or a local event. Connect with your local community for a change.

#2 Read something different.

Sometimes after niching down, we tend to consume only the information that can serve our audience. While it is important to develop expertise in your niche, remember the vast area of knowledge that you’re leaving off the table. This is something I personally struggle with. All I want to read about is self-help, psych books etc…. But I have been thinking about picking a few romance novels to change my mindspace a little bit, even for one weekend.

#3 You don’t have to respond to every news.

The first thing we do when something huge is happening in the world is to check our favorite influencers to see what they have to say about it. While this loyalty is cute, it’s very important to avoid pouring from an empty cup. Be honest to your community about what you’re feeling, and take a breather if you need it. You can always share when you are mentally ready.
