What Are You Not Talking About? 5 Ways You Are Limiting God in Your Life

I wrote a post encouraging you to make bold requests to God. Before that, I also wrote about David’s way of coming to God with his heart wide open in “Pray Ugly Prayers.” So today, I want to talk about the little things you probably believe are too minimal to concern God.

Whenever I want to reassure myself that God cares about the tiny details of my life, I look around me at nature. The diversity in all colors, shapes, and sizes of our vegetables and flowers; the wind blowing on a sunny afternoon while on the other side of the sun, it’s snowing; the animals on land and fish in the sea contributing to the evolution and safety of our planet. We are all so different yet mysteriously connected in so many minute details. That intentionality is the clue to the beautiful mind of God.

You look at a beautiful vibrant flower that will fade in a few months. All that beauty was created simply for our eyes to breathe and rest at the sight of that flower. God cares about your happiness.

But, if you’ve ever done any of these five things, you’re probably limiting God in your life:

  1. Do you have an area in your life that you never talked to God about?

2. Is there someone with whom you can’t get along, yet still haven’t asked God how to interact with them?

3. Are you struggling with a particular skill in your career, and you believe the only way to solve it is through more education but not by talking to God?

4. Have you ever had a bad day with no major events like accidents or job loss, simply a normal boring, sad, bad day, but you think that’s not something to pray about?

5. Do you talk to God about your body, not for major surgeries, illnesses, and pain, but simply telling God about little thing that annoys you like acne, weight gain, hair loss.. or do you believe you should only talk to God if you have a major health diagnosis?

See, the gift of the holy spirit is also God’s way of offering friendship. Most of us think the holy spirit is presidential – for major purposes like chasing a demon, praying in tongues, understanding the bible, prophesying etc…. but these are not the idiosyncracies of an evolving human.

Our life is a collection of the little things that bring joy and sadness, but we tend to neglect the little things to focus on the major events.

Wellness is an educational degree because we have become accustomed to dismissing the little habits and practices that slowly destroy our lives.

If you can tell your girlfriend about your bad hair day, what makes you think God wouldn’t care about that too?

Let’s make a commitment today to pray about the minimal things.

You may find your life on that list. Start there!

Pray about your next cup of coffee, your habits of misplacing things, your desires to avoid people at all costs, your missing socks, and spoons, your children eating your food, or your husband’s tendency to rearrange your stuff.

Pray about that coworker you really wish would stop walking into your office, the neighbors who never said good morning, the deacon who always makes you feel uneasy, or the sermon that felt like your last counseling session with the pastor.

Pray about your social media presence or pages, the post that left you frustrated, and the person behind it.

Pray about the days you feel like staying in bed or ask God to trick your body to feel like you’ve slept for 8 hours…

The point is you really can trust God with E VERY THING. The irony is that he already knows it all, but I bet you it’s a different experience if you share that part of your life with him.

Surrender ALL.

Love & Light.

Thank you for writing. Thank you for this reminder to take E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G to God. Nothing is too small or insignificant, He cares about it ALL, and wants us to bring it to HIM. 💫
